Some Tenets of the Democratic Party

• Government policies should protect American jobs at home.

• We are stewards of the environment, and its protection is vital to future generations of Americans.

• All children, regardless of where they live, deserve a quality education.

• All Americans should be able to attain higher education if they want it.

• The minimum wage should be a livable wage.

• In this, the greatest nation in modern history, all citizens deserve access to quality healthcare regardless of their income.

• The Founding Fathers created a strong constitutional separation between church and state for a good reason.

• Social security must remain a strong institution.

• Women should be allowed to make their own reproductive choices.

• A strong defensive military should be maintained and used wisely with restraint.

• America should be a good neighbor in our global village.

Montgomery County Democrats

Traditionally representative “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” the Democratic Party looks back on a proud history — a history not just of a political organization but of a national vision.  It is a vision based on the strength and power of millions of economically empowered, socially diverse and politically active Americans. In fighting for the Bill of Rights, the founder of the Democratic Party, Thomas Jefferson, decided that wealth and social status were not an entitlement to rule.  He believed that wisdom and compassion could be found within every individual and a stable government must be built upon a broad popular base.

The ideals of Thomas Jefferson are the same ideals we hold true today as Montgomery County Democrats in the 21st Century.  As members of this wonderful Texas community, we are your neighbors, your friends, your colleagues at work, and your partners in spirit. 

We know there are challenges confronting America now and in the years to come.   As citizens of this county, this state, and this country, our greatest concern is how decisions made today will affect our children, their children, and their children’s children.  What can we do today to make life economically prosperous, environmentally sound, politically free, and inherently secure for future generations?
